GIVE ME MORE SPORTS CONTENT…
Every existing media channel today has a voracious appetite for more and more content. The continually expanding number of channels since the internet became a major fixture in our lives set the race in motion for an insatiable amount of content to be created.
In many cases, the quantity has been at the expense of quality. With cheaper and cheaper productions becoming the norm.
While sports has always been a popular form of entertainment, the sports content creation has been relegated mainly to major league coverage, due to the high production costs involved.
Sports automation to the rescue
Typically, TV entertainment has found a way of creating great quantities of content cheaply by going the route of reality shows. Sports, on the other hand, has much more value then cheap voyeuristic content. There is also a great percentage of personal involvement and identification with sports, particularly at the local level when it comes to Little Leagues populated by children, neighbours and family.
Today the advent of automated production technologies is totally changing the landscape of sports production and distribution in a big way.
In 2022, there are numerous technologies and vendors who can offer various levels automated sports production. Only a select few can claim the ability to compete reasonably with typical types of production that require multiple cameramen, production crews, O/B vans etc. at a fraction of the cost.
Change is here
The quantity of sports being broadcast today using non-traditional production and broadcasting platforms is unbelievably huge!
Today, Pixellot systems produce and broadcast over 100,000 live games a month! That’s over 1 million games produced so far using automated production, and the potential number is several tens of times higher!
A Win Win Media proposition
Sports automation presents a clear advantage for teams and leagues, but also for parents and fans.
What do viewers really want? They want content that they can get excited about. Although local sports and junior leagues might not present the same professional level as the top national teams, they do enjoy similar or even greater personal devotion from their fanbase.
It works!
One recent success is Scotland’s 2nd and 3rd leagues in soccer. They had little-to-no coverage media coverage and Covid19 closed stadiums leaving teams with no way to connect to their fan base, and no way to generate desperately needed income.
They installed Pixellot automated systems at the stadiums and the games where streamed live and on demand for a subscription fee. It was so successful that the teams recouped the modest initial infrastructure investment and started making a profit. Fans were overjoyed!
Another successful example is Major League Baseball’s Appalachian League. A showcase for young talent, the games are all available for watching so coaches and scouts can easily search for talent and family can also catch the games even from great distance.
Cost versus income
Production costs for sporting events are no longer a barrier for sports content creating, producing, distributing and monetizing since sports automation has made the whole process much more inexpensive. No need for multiple camera operators, production crews, O/B vans, etc.
Pixellot put together an end-to-end solution that not only knows how to film things in high quality and stream live productions but contains a powerful integrated platform that enables Channel creation and easy to operate management that can easily be personalized.
TV is back! Sort of…
OTT is the new TV of the digital generation. OTT platforms and streaming are becoming the norm for broadcasting today. Just like antennas gave way to cable, Broadcasting is giving way to streaming.
According to eMarketer, 55.1 million people will stop watching traditional pay TV by 2022. Allied Market Research estimates the global OTT market reaching $1.039 trillion by 2027. With Statista projecting OTT media revenue to reach more than $210 billion by 2026. Juniper Research expects OTT TV and video subscriptions to grow to 2 billion by 2025.
Today, with its own integrated OTT platform, Pixellot systems have produced and broadcast over 1.5 million games from over 17,000 fields in 57 countries using automated production, and the potential number is several tens of times higher!
